DIY scratch and stone chip removal on your car
How do you remove even small paint damage from your car?
Modern car care products make it easy to repair minor paint damage yourself, without having to visit a body shop. Such damage can be removed by hand using very simple tools such as polishes and touch-up pens. While polishes only offer temporary, short-term removal of superficial scratches, touch-up pens with car paint and clear coat allow for comprehensive, detailed repairs, even of deeper scratches and paint chips on the vehicle. The result of using a touch-up pen is not just a temporary concealment, but a restoration of the integrity of the paintwork.
Repair touch-up pens for removing scratches on cars – when to use which?
- For small scratches in the clear coat, a polish or a touch-up pen with car paint is usually sufficient.
- For paint and paint chips, two touch-up pens are required – one with car paint in the car color and one with clear coat.
- For deeper damage, where not only the clear coat and paint but also the primer are damaged and moisture and dirt penetrate to the metal, you need a primer touch-up pen, a repair touch-up pen with paint and a touch-up pen with clear coat.
In order to quickly repair paint damage and permanently maintain the aesthetic appearance of the car, it is most practical to buy a scratch removal repair kit - a set of three touch-up pens: primer (ideally with zinc content), car paint in the body color and a clear coat pen.
Using the paint repair kit
The kit for repairing paint damage on cars consists of small bottles or tubes of professional paint components, equipped with brushes for application. This allows you to comprehensively restore the paintwork yourself. The kit includes:
- Primer touch-up pen (for metal, anti-corrosive or for plastic),
- Touch-up pen with car paint in car color,
- Clear varnish touch-up pen .
Instructions for using the repair kit
Using the paint touch-up kit is easy:
- Clean and degrease the repair area;
- Apply primer from the appropriate touch-up pen and allow to dry (anti-corrosion primer approx. 30 minutes, primer for plastic approx. 15 minutes);
- Apply car paint from the paint pen in 2-3 coats, allowing each coat to dry for 10-15 minutes;
- Apply clear coat from the repair pen in 1-2 coats.
After the repair is completed, a drying time of 6-10 hours is recommended. Ideally, the vehicle should not be used for the first 24 hours after the paint touch-up, especially in adverse weather conditions such as rain, frost, or extreme heat.
The repair kit is now available for all car brands and colors. The touch-up pens can be selected to match the original color codes for Mazda, Volvo, Renault, Kia, Ford, Seat, Nissan, Skoda, VW, and many other models.
